The Best Slow Cooker Hot Dog Chili

A close-up, sunlit photo of two grilled hot dogs in soft buns, generously topped with savory slow cooker hot dog chili, diced white onions, and bright yellow mustard on a clean white plate.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef (90% lean or higher)

  • 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce

  • ½ cup water

  • 1 ½ tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

  • ¼ cup white onion, finely minced

  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper

  • ½ teaspoon chili powder

  • ⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper

  • 1 tablespoon ground mustard

Instructions

  • Combine Ingredients: Add the raw, lean ground beef, tomato sauce, water, Worcestershire sauce, minced onion, garlic powder, black pepper, chili powder, cayenne pepper, and ground mustard directly into the bowl of your slow cooker.

  • Mash and Stir: Use a sturdy spoon or meat masher to thoroughly stir the ingredients together. Break up the raw ground beef as finely as possible.

  • Cook: Place the lid securely on the slow cooker. Cook on the LOW setting for exactly 4 hours.

  • Stir Mid-Cook: About 2 hours into the cooking time, remove the lid and stir vigorously to continue breaking down the ground beef into a fine, classic chili texture.

  • Serve: Once the 4 hours are up, give it one final stir. Spoon the hot chili generously over warm hot dogs and enjoy!
