The Best Simple Guacamole Recipe

A clean, top-down view showing how to make guacamole from scratch, served in a minimalist ceramic bowl on a marble countertop and garnished with colorful diced tomatoes.

Ingredients

  • 3 large ripe avocados

  • 1/4 cup white onion, finely diced

  • 1 Roma tomato, cored and diced (optional)

  • 1 jalapeño pepper, seeds removed and finely diced

  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, roughly chopped

  • 1 large lime, juiced (about 2 tablespoons)

  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt (plus more to taste)

Instructions

  1. Slice the avocados in half and carefully remove the pits. Use a spoon to scoop the green flesh into a large mixing bowl.

  2. Use a sturdy fork or a potato masher to gently mash the avocados until they reach your desired consistency. Leave some chunks for texture!

  3. Add the finely diced white onion, Roma tomato, jalapeño, and chopped cilantro to the bowl.

  4. Squeeze the fresh lime juice over the vegetables and sprinkle the kosher salt on top.

  5. Gently fold everything together with a spoon just until combined.

  6. Taste the dip with a tortilla chip and add more salt or lime juice if needed. Serve immediately and enjoy!
