Slicing into a warm old fashioned easy apple crisp with a silver spoon showing the jammy cinnamon apple filling and a side bowl of ice cream.

This timeless, easy apple crisp features tender, cinnamon-spiced Golden Delicious apples baked beneath a deeply flavorful, extra-crunchy brown sugar oat streusel topping.

Ingredients

Spiced Apple Layer:

  • 6 large Golden Delicious apples, peeled and chopped (approx. 6-7 cups)

  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar

  • 3/4 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1 1/2 tsp fresh lemon juice

Crunchy Oat Topping:

  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed

  • 3/4 cup old fashioned rolled oats

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1 pinch kosher salt

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, ice-cold and diced into cubes

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease an 8×8-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick cooking spray.

  2. In a large bowl, toss your chopped apples, granulated sugar, 3/4 teaspoon of cinnamon, and lemon juice together until completely coated. Transfer the fruit mix into your prepared dish.

  3. In a separate bowl, stir together the brown sugar, old fashioned oats, flour, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and a pinch of salt.

  4. Add your ice-cold, cubed butter to the oat mixture. Cut the butter in using a pastry cutter or your fingertips until it forms uniform, pea-sized crumbs.

  5. Scatter the streusel topping evenly over your spiced apple layer. Gently pat it down to level the top.

  6. Bake for 45 minutes until the oat topping turns a beautiful dark golden brown and the sweet fruit juices are bubbling up around the sides. Serve warm.
