Homemade Dairy Queen Ice Cream Cake Recipe

A bright, beautifully styled final slice of a homemade dairy queen ice cream cake on a plate next to the whole frosted cake, showcasing distinct layers of chocolate ice cream, fudge cookie crunchies, and vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

  • 2 quarts chocolate ice cream, slightly softened

  • 2 quarts vanilla ice cream, slightly softened

  • 24 Oreo cookies, crushed

  • 2 cups hot fudge sauce, room temperature

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream, cold

  • 4 tbsp granulated sugar

  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract

  • Rainbow sprinkles for decoration

Instructions

  1. Line a 9-inch springform pan with plastic wrap, leaving overhang on all sides.

  2. Spread the softened chocolate ice cream evenly into the bottom of the pan. Freeze for 30 minutes.

  3. Smooth the room-temperature hot fudge sauce over the chocolate layer. Top evenly with the crushed Oreo cookies, pressing down gently. Freeze for 45 minutes.

  4. Spread the softened vanilla ice cream over the cookie layer. Cover tightly and freeze for a minimum of 8 hours or overnight.

  5. Remove the cake from the springform pan using the plastic wrap overhang to assist. Invert onto a plate, remove wrap, and place back in the freezer.

  6. Whip the heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form. Frost the entire cake quickly, decorate with sprinkles, and freeze for 1 hour before slicing.
