Fresh Watermelon Margarita

A candid, human-shot photo of a bright pink fresh watermelon margarita recipe served over ice with a salted Tajín rim, sitting on a sunny wooden patio table.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh seedless watermelon, cubed

  • 3 oz silver (blanco) tequila

  • 1.5 oz fresh lime juice (about 1-2 limes)

  • 1 tablespoon agave nectar (adjust to taste)

  • Coarse kosher salt or Tajín (for the rim)

  • Lime wedges and small watermelon slices (for garnish)

  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  • Place the fresh watermelon cubes into a blender and blend until completely smooth.

  • Pour the pureed watermelon through a fine-mesh strainer into a bowl, pressing the juice through and discarding the pulp.

  • Rub a lime wedge around the rim of two cocktail glasses. Dip the rims into a small plate filled with salt or Tajín.

  • Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the strained watermelon juice, tequila, fresh lime juice, and agave nectar.

  • Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds until chilled.

  • Fill the prepared glasses with fresh ice. Strain the margarita mixture over the ice, garnish with a watermelon slice, and enjoy immediately.

Notes

  • Make it a Mocktail: Skip the tequila and top the glasses with a splash of sparkling water or club soda instead.

  • Make it Frozen: Use frozen watermelon cubes, skip the straining step, and blend all ingredients together until slushy.
